What is the difference between a "Mattress Protector" and a "Mattress Pad"?

This is the most common confusion! A mattress pad (often quilted) primarily provides extra cushioning and has minimal waterproofing. A mattress protector (like Nityam UltraSonic) is specifically designed to act as a shield against liquids, stains, and allergens. Think of a pad as an accessory; think of a protector as an insurance policy for your mattress.

Will this protector make me sweat or sound like a plastic sheet?

Absolutely not. That is the specific problem we solved. Cheap protectors use a solid PVC or polyethylene layer which traps heat and crinkles loudly. We use a premium Breathable TPU membrane which is micro-porous—meaning air and heat escape, but liquid droplets are too large to enter. It remains 100% silent when you move.

Does the ultrasonic bonding really matter if I just want waterproofing?

It matters tremendously. With regular stitched protectors, when you lie down, your body weight pushes the fabric down. The tension pulls at the stitch holes, widening them. If even a drop of liquid hits those widened holes, it wicks straight into your mattress. The Ultrasonic bond has no holes, so pressure actually makes the seal tighter rather than weaker.

Will this fit my mattress? I have a thick orthopedic mattress.

Yes. Our fitted skirt is designed with a deep pocket to accommodate mattresses up to 12 inches (30 cm) in depth. The fully elasticized corners keep it snugly in place even if you toss and turn all night.

How do I wash it without damaging the waterproof layer?

It’s very easy!

  1. Machine wash in cold or warm water (max 40°C) on a gentle cycle.
  2. Use mild liquid detergent. (Avoid bleach, fabric softeners, or dry cleaning chemicals, as they can break down the TPU membrane).
  3. Tumble dry on low heat or hang to dry. Do not iron.
    Pro-tip: Washing it before first use increases the softness of the top layer!

Can dust mites still get through the fabric?

No. Dust mites require a food source (skin cells) and moisture. The UltraSonic bonding eliminates the stitching holes that dust mites usually use to tunnel through. Furthermore, the TPU barrier blocks them entirely from passing through to the mattress filling. Regular washing of the protector removes surface allergens, providing a clean, hygienic sleep environment.

Will this void my mattress warranty?

No—in fact, it protects your warranty! Most mattress warranties are voided if the mattress has stains or moisture damage. By using the Nityam UltraSonic, you keep your mattress pristine and stain-free, ensuring your warranty remains fully valid.
